Lightening The Darkness – LIT is a mental health charity based in Spennymoor, County Durham.

Through a team of skilled and dedicated facilitators we provide structured peer-support sessions, informal events such as coffee morning’s and game evenings, one-to-one guidance and advice sessions, as well as other tools and resources designed to help understand mental-health challenges, and how to face or overcome them.

Each week we host both male and female support sessions with a specific focus on a mental health topic. This changes weekly to ensure we offer guidance, insights and advise to each attendee – as no two mental health journeys look the same.

Mental Health doesn’t have a schedule. That is why members of the LIT community can access mental health support 24/7 through our WhatsApp group, which is managed by moderators to ensure we can help our members when they need us the most.

LIT attendees are invited to join informal WhatsApp groups to help build positive and friendly relationships with other group attendees (with separate groups for male and female attendees).

With a range of informal and fun activities taking place each month, we are committed to helping everyone find positive ways to improve their mental health and overcome any challenges they may be facing.

LIT attendees can be confident they are joining a community that understands the challenges and stigma surrounding mental health and our team are committed to providing the support, resources and tools that will make a difference.
